Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers have been used for decades to significantly change smiles and achieve very lifelike results.

Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers are thin shells that cover the front surfaces of teeth. They are frequently used to enhance the appearance of teeth by modifying their tint, shape, and, in certain cases, alignment. They appear natural and are not bulky because they are thin and made of semi-translucent materials. Furthermore, because Traditional Veneers are custom-made to match the contour of your natural teeth, they blend in and are not obvious as fake teeth.

Traditional Veneers are a type of cosmetic dentistry technique that can conceal cosmetic concerns such cracked teeth, minor misalignment, discoloration, chipping, moderately crooked teeth, and certain gaps between teeth.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADITONAL  OR PREP PORCELAIN VENEERS VERSUS NO-PREP VENEERS

 

Porcelain veneers are the most prevalent type of dental veneer material. Although the shells are thin, dental preparation is essential in order for them to fit over the teeth without being bulky.

Preparation of the teeth is required. Despite the fact that porcelain veneers are thin, the placement technique still necessitates the removal of a thin amount of tooth enamel to accommodate the veneer on the tooth’s surface. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth after cutting the enamel in order to produce personalised veneers.

Prolonged application process. Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers are often applied in a multi-step procedure. The first step is to remove the enamel. The impression of your teeth will then be taken by your dentist and sent to a dental laboratory. A technician will use the mould to make custom-made veneers. It might be expensive. Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers may be more expensive than no-prep veneers on average. However, the cost may differ depending on circumstances specific to each patient.

Differences in how are Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers and No-Prep Veneers are Performed?

Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers

 

It involve removal of a layer of enamel from the front of the teeth that are being treated. The total amount of enamel depends on the desired results of the patient. In most cases, we removes about .5 mm to .7 mm of dental material from the front of the teeth. The dentist then takes an impression of the teeth in order to make the veneers in the dental office or at an off-site dental lab. With Traditional Veneers, Temporary veneers are always placed to protect the underlying dentin and prevent sensitivity while eating or drinking and to preserve appearance, but not in Prepless. Once the veneers are complete and back from the lab, we checks their shape and appearance to make sure the veneer does not affect the bite of the patient or have any alignment issues. The dentist also checks the color of the veneers against the natural shade of the teeth. We call our patient for a Preview appointment. If our patients are happy with everything cosmetic, we book them next for a cementation appointment. The veneers are then bonded to the teeth and a curing light is used to harden the cement used to attach the veneer to the teeth.

More time is involved in fabricating this type of Dental Veneer on the first visit.

 

What would give the best Aesthetic Results? Traditional/Prep or No-Prep/Prepless Veneers

 

Because the Traditional Veneers or prepped Porcelain Veneers are fraction thicker, they can be made out of more-translucent porcelain. That means light will be able to enter into and reflect back out of them in a fashion that truly mimics the lustrous look of a natural tooth.

Also, a thicker laminate generally offers the dental technician more opportunity to incorporate characterization and shading qualities into the veneer itself by way of using different shades of porcelain in its fabrication. This characterizations effect makes the traditional more natural looking.

Patients who prefer a monochromatic very white bleached teeth, are good candidates for Prepless/No Prep veneers. Because there are no reduction and preparation on the tooth, they could appear lifeless.

 

The ease and pain-free advantage that no-drilling/no-shots technique offers simply outweighs the disadvantage of a less than perfectly natural-looking outcome.

If you have to ask Dr Castro, she would always choose the traditional Veneers. But you have to decide for yourself what pros and cons of the veneer that you could take to compromise. If cost is not an issue and don’t mind a fraction .03-0.5 mm preparation on your teeth, then go with traditional Veneers. You would be happier with the more natural look.

 

How many teeth do you get Veneers on?

 

How many veneers should you get? It is a good idea to have an even number of veneers. Two, four, eight, ten or twelve veneers give the best aesthetic results.

 

• How big is your smile?  Now when you look in the mirror and smile big, how many teeth do you see?
• How much whiter do you want your teeth?  A little bit or a lot?  Or are you happy with the whiteness?
• Besides the color, do you want to change anything about the length, width, shape, or overall size?

In simple terms, the bigger your smile and the bigger the changes that you want, the more teeth have to be treated

 

 

How Many Teeth Show In Your Smile?

 

No – not just looking straight on – look from the sides, too.  Too many people think they only show 6 teeth, because that’s what they see in the mirror.  But if you turn your head just a little to one side, you’ll realize that you probably show at least 8 or 10 teeth total in a big grin.  You see what a big mistake that was for Matthew Perry, right?  He clearly needed 10-12 veneers, his grin is so wide.

Of course, if you are only unhappy with 1-2 teeth in that whole smile, you always have the option of only treating those specific teeth.  Just because you show a lot of teeth in your smile doesn’t mean all of them need porcelain veneers , but if you want to change your whole smile, you do need to plan on treating ALL the teeth that show in your smile.

 

 How Much Whiter Do You Want Your Smile?

 

Again, Matthew is a great example. He obviously wanted his smile to be a lot brighter; he’s in Hollywood after all.  It’s easy to see that, if you make a dramatic change in the colour of your smile, you can’t stop half way.  This is one of the most important reasons to look at how many teeth you show when smiling.  If you want much brighter teeth, you have to do all the teeth that show.  Sometimes that means doing the bottom teeth, too.

If you’re keeping the colour teeth you already have, you have more freedom to choose how many teeth get veneers.  In fact, if you like the natural colour of your teeth, you might only need to do whichever teeth you don’t like.  However, if you only get 1-2 teeth done but want your whole smile brighter, do Teeth Whitening FIRST.  can’t be whitened!
